Iran and Israel ceasefire agreement

A brief summary of the events of the past weeks

The June 2025 war between Israel and Iran ended. On 24 June 2025, a ceasefire went into effect, mediated mainly by the US. A formal ceasefire is currently in place, but the parties continue to accuse each other of sabotage and violations.

Significant military and civilian losses

Both countries suffered significant military and civilian losses. Iran's nuclear and military infrastructure has been weakened. And Israel is under increased civil tension. Iran's nuclear capability has declined for years, but has not been eliminated. Israel has strengthened its deterrence capability, but fears of further retaliation.

Iran has suffered nearly 600 dead and hundreds wounded during this war. In Israel, there are dozens of wounded and some dead, including civilians, such as the victims of the attack on Soroka Hospital in Beersheba.

Many of Iran's nuclear and missile infrastructures have been severely damaged, in particular facilities between Fordo, Natanz, Isfahan and Tehran. The Fordo and Natanz facilities have been severely damaged and uranium enrichment has been halted. There was significant damage to Iran's military logistics centres, particularly in the Dezful and Tehran areas.

In Israel, the economic losses are much smaller, thanks to the high level of air defence. Only a few industrial facilities in southern and central Israel have suffered more serious damage. Israel's military superiority is outstanding not only in technology but also in intelligence and cyber warfare. Israel's air defences (Iron Dome, David's Sling, and Arrow-3) have been put to the test again, with hundreds of Iranian missiles and drones deployed and disabled.

Nucleera dimension and diplomacy

The Israeli and US bombing was aimed not only at physically destroying Iran's nuclear infrastructure, but also at weakening its technological development and human resources. In addition, the Israeli government had no secret intention of toppling the Iranian regime.

Iran is currently seeking to block IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) access to bombed facilities, which is causing serious international tension.

Arab world reaction

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are officially silent, but have not condemned Israel, and there have been secret talks at defence level. Attacks by Iranian allied militias from Iraq and Syria have been targeted by Israel.

In June, Israel and the US launched heavy military strikes on Iran. Although they generated considerable domestic political tension, the military-strategic balance stabilised with the ceasefire. Iran remains a key power in the Middle East.
